University of Guadalajara

The University of Guadalajara, based in the city of Guadalajara in Mexico, is considered to be the most significant university in the state and the second in the country. It is also the second oldest in Mexico, with foundations dating back to?1791.

The university has affiliations with several high schools as well as graduate and undergraduate campuses, which are distributed across the state of Jalisco, Mexico.

A variety of scientific research journals are published by the university, most notably Science and Technology-related Journals, which include: EconoQuantum, Mexico and the Pacific Basin, Communication and Society, Espiral. State and Society Studies, and the Apertura Educational Innovation Journal.

The university hosts a publishing house called Editorial Universitaria, which publishes academics texts, manuals, monographs and wide variety of books. The main aim is to spread knowledge and to enhance teaching and researching tendencies for both students and teachers.

Created in 1987, the Guadalajara International Book Fair is considered to be one of the biggest international book markets for Spanish publications. A number of editors, literary agents, reading promoters, translators, book dealers and librarians attend looking for new business opportunities.

Moreover?the?Guadalajara International Film Festival?is one of the most important cinema-related events in Latin America, because of the important initiatives it offers to the?film industry. It is hosted by the university alongside The Mexican Institute of Cinematography, the?National Council for Culture and Arts, the?Jalisco?State Government, the?Zapopan?and?Guadalajara?City Halls and?Cin¨¦polis

The?University of Guadalajara?is home to a large sports infrastructure and is also co-owner of the?Jalisco Stadium,?which holds a large number of university teams. The university hosts a variety of sports including: athletics, basketball, boxing, gymnastics, volleyball, swimming and diving.

Notable alumni include Enrique Gonzalez Martinez, a doctor, poet, and literary Nobel Prize nominee, Barbara Padilla, a soprano and runner-up on the fourth season of America's Got Talent, and Samuel Kishi Leopo, a film director and editor.
